Engwe M20 E-bike Full Review

The Engwe M20 electric bike might remind you of the SUPER73, and that’s because it’s definitely influenced by it.

The Engwe M20 comes with a couple of interesting perks: you have the option to add a second battery pack, which will double your range, and it even offers full suspension at a price that’s lower than what you’d pay for a non-suspension SUPER73.

But here’s the catch – The e-bike caters to your everyday transport needs pretty well, but might not give you the out of the world features. Everything about the Engwe M20 is pretty basic and decent, without any outstanding features that will leave you amazed by its build quality.

ENGWE M20 E-Bike Review

However, there are still plenty of good things to appreciate. You get a long range, powerful performance, and even dual headlights with the Engwe M20. Engwe might not have focused on exceptional quality, but they’ve made up for it by giving you a whole bunch of features that actually work quite well.

What is an Engwe M20 ebike?

The Engwe M20 is a unique e-bike that combines a moped style with a minibike frame. Unlike traditional mopeds with step-through frames, the M20 features a box-style frame, resembling a motorcycle. It does have functional pedals, but the seating position makes pedaling uncomfortable.

Main Features of Engwe M20 ebike

The bike comes loaded with following pretty solid features:

Features of Electric bike.

Engwe M20 ebike Design

The Engwe M20 electric bike showcases a familiar design consistent with Engwe’s emphasis on robust construction. Crafted from lightweight 6061 aluminum alloy, the M20 strikes a balance between durability and weight. It weighs around 77 pounds and it can support riders weighing up to 265 pounds.

The bike’s design accommodates individuals ranging from 5 feet to 6 feet 8 inches in height.

Moreover, this e-bike is equipped with 20 x 4-inch all-terrain fat tires made from carbon nano-braided rubber, translating into better traction and long-lasting performance.

Power Hub Motor

This electric bike has a powerful hub motor with an excellent performance. The hub motor is efficient and provides reliable propulsion, allowing riders to conquer various terrains easily.

The motor’s high power output enables swift acceleration and smooth riding speeds. This ensures an enjoyable riding experience, whether navigating city streets or tackling off-road trails.

13Ah Battery

The Engwe M20 electric bike comes equipped with a robust 48V13Ah lithium-ion battery, conveniently positioned under the handlebars. This powerful battery provides ample energy to power your rides. It offers an electric mode range of approximately 34.17 miles and a range of approximately 47 miles when using the Pedal Assist System mode.

This e-bike ensures convenience on the go as it has a user-friendly power switch and a handy USB-A port for device charging.

Keep an eye on the battery level with the illuminated indicators on top, and enjoy quick charging in approximately five hours through the accessible charging port.

Dual Front light

This e-bike features dual front lights that provide illumination during your rides. However, there is an issue with these lights: while the on/off button controls the main headlight bulbs, there are also small LED bars in each light that remain on and cannot be turned off entirely.

They don’t significantly drain the battery, but it seems unnecessary for them to stay illuminated during the daytime.

Dual Shock System

The Engwe M20 has a dual shock system that enhances the overall riding experience. This system effectively absorbs shocks and vibrations on rough terrain with a front hydraulic suspension and rear air shock.

The combination of these two suspension components creates a reliable and responsive system that contributes to improved stability and control. The dual shock system on this e-bike helps to maintain traction and reduces the impact felt by the rider, resulting in a more enjoyable and confident riding experience.

Seating

The Engwe M20 features a comfortable seat that enhances the riding experience. It is designed with rider comfort in mind. Consequently, the seat provides adequate cushioning and support during extended rides.

However, it’s important to note that the seat height is fixed and may not be adjustable to accommodate individual rider preferences. This fixed height may not be ideal for riders who require specific adjustments for optimal comfort or proper leg extension.

Moreover, it is advisable for potential buyers to consider their own height and riding posture to ensure the fixed seat height suits their needs.

Pedal Assist System

Let’s move to the e-bike’s pedal assist system that provides an extra boost to the rider’s pedaling efforts. Although equipped with a cadence sensor, the pedal assist system exhibits a slight lag in its activation. Consequently, it gradually ramps up the motor’s power rather than delivering it all at once.

While this delay may be viewed as a safety feature to prevent sudden surges of power, it can feel somewhat sluggish when starting from a standstill. However, once engaged, the pedal assist system delivers reliable assistance, allowing riders to maintain a desired speed with relative ease.

It is worth noting that the pedal assist system works in harmony with the throttle, enabling riders to achieve a quick start by using both features simultaneously.

Braking System

This e-bike’s braking system is worth mentioning, albeit with some drawbacks. The bike comes with Wuxing 160mm mechanical disc brakes, which, considering the bike’s weight, might feel slightly underpowered.

The stopping power of the brakes may not fully match the weight and speed capabilities of the e-bike. This can be a concern, particularly during faster rides or when encountering sudden obstacles.

Hence, It is important for riders to exercise caution and be aware of the braking limitations.

Tires

The talk is incomplete without discussing e-bike’s tires. This e-bike has Kenda 4×20″ fat tires resulting in excellent performance on various surfaces. These fat tires provide impressive traction and stability, making them well-suited for navigating both roads and gravel paths.

Their larger surface area and increased width help to absorb shocks and bumps. Moreover, the sturdy construction of the tires adds durability, making them suitable for tackling challenging off-road conditions.

Speed

The Engwe M20 offers an exciting ride with a top speed of 28mph (45 km/h). Whether commuting through the city or trails, the Engwe M20’s high-speed capabilities ensure you’ll reach your destination in time.

Moreover, you can experience the rush of the wind while riding this e-bike and enjoy the freedom of faster travel. Its impressive speed opens up a world of possibilities, enables you to make the most of your rides and arrive at your destinations easily.
